Atiyeh Chiropractic and Functional Neurology shares these NEW back pain guidelines and recommendations:

Spinal Manipulation as a First Option

The American College of Physicians recommends non-drug and non-invasive treatment of acute, subacute and chronic low back pain. Spinal manipulation is particularly named as one option. (1) Any stage of Plymouth back pain or Plymouthneck pain is welcomed at Atiyeh Chiropractic and Functional Neurology. Our Plymouth chiropractic care applies to any stage of pain! The Cox Technic system of Plymouth back pain relief reduces intradiscal pressures, widens the intervertebral spinal canal area by up to 28%, and enhances spinal mobility. Spinal Manipulation for Acute Back Pain

Acute low back pain – pain that lasts up to 6 weeks in duration – responds to spinal manipulation according to a new article in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) that studied published randomized clinical trials. This review reports that spinal manipulation offers modest improvement in pain and function with no serious adverse effects. (2)

JAMA also published an editorial by the esteemed medical doctor and author, Richard Deyo, MD, about spinal manipulation for back pain referencing Paige’s study. The editorial clarifies that spinal manipulation treatment for acute low back pain is appropriate. Its use is in line with the American College of Physicians review and subsequent guideline. Spinal manipulation allows modest improvement in pain and function in the short-term in comparison with sham manipulation, usual care and other treatments. And of note, Deyo points out that, of the trials reviewed by Paige et al and the American College of Physicians, none suggested that spinal manipulation care was less effective than conventional medical care (drugs, rest, etc.). SMT proved equal to or better than conventional care. (3)
